Also in 2005 I went through an art book phase.  Some are fabric, some are board books that I purchased
from the library for 25cents, then sanded and painted.  A couple are from classes that I took this year and in
2004.  I don't know how to quilt, but muttled through a quilt block, spending most of my time beading it.
The text in this book is a poem I wrote
inspired by the tree outside my window:
"I wish I was a tree
with roots deep into the earth.
Everyday I would lift my face to the sun,
and it would not hurt to grow."
I wrote it in the middle of a depression,
when each day hurt, and imagining
facing the day without pain inspired
this book.
This book was my first attempt at transfering pictures.  It wasn't so fun, but I did get some of my baby
photos onto fabric.  I watercolored the paper and then sewed the quilt blocks onto the paper with my
sewing machine, which worked very well.  The woman in the photos is my mother, which is really fun,
because I think I look alot like her, now that I am about the same age she was when the photo was
taken of her.
This is the cover of the book that is
quilt block squares in black and white
that illustrate the poem "star light, star
bright".
This is from a class that I took at Art
and Soul from Brionnie Williams.  Does
anyone know where she is?  Is she still
in Mexico?
This was from Traci Bautista's
ArtFiberFest class in 2005, the spine is
latch-hook, with paper signatures.  It's
a super way to use up left-over fabric.
If you ever have a chance to take her
class, do!
Another kid's board book, I found the
doll on the front in a Mary Engelbreit
magazine, sorry I don't remember the
artist.  It's another illustrated essay
about what happiness really means,
taken from my personal journal.
Painted and collaged, then sealed with
Dorlans wax.
This is one of those kids board books
that I sanded down.  The picture on
the front is one that my daughter took
of me, it was blurry anyways, so I
sanded it down and glazed over it.  It's
just filled with collage of things that
caught my eye.
